Māori Language Week

This week, Hīnau have had a great time during Māori Language. In class, we did activities that taught us about language and telling people about us.

On Tuesday we all went and did a rotation that had us doing Māori craft, games or waiata. We had lots of fun.

Last Friday we spent time with our buddy class (Rm 7,8,9). We read each others writing and gave each other feedback. 

Then we sang some of our favourite assembly songs!

Wearable Arts 2019

Well done to all of our Hīnau students who participated in our Wearable arts extravaganza over Week 4!

All of the teachers were impressed with the teamwork, passion and drive our students showed when creating their masterpiece. Those voice overs in the hall sounded awesome too!

T2 WINTER SPORTS TOURNAMENT

This week some of our Hīnau students participated in a winter sports tournament. Overall our students performed really well and placed within the top 5!

Hīnau "Acids and Bases" Science Term 2

This term Hīnau have been focusing on "Acids and Bases" in Science

In this unit, students have been gaining an understanding of what acids and bases are and how they work individually and apart.

We have been focusing on:

• Identifying what an acid and a base is by using a PH scale

• Explaining the differences between acids and bases using their senses
• Posing questions about why an experiment has a particular reaction
• Using diagrams to explain what has happened in experiments by including detailed labels

We also explored combining acids and bases on paper to see what would happen!

YR 5/6 RUGBY FUN 2019

This year we entered 3 teams to participate in Rugby Fun Day - 1 Yr5 boys team, 1 Yr6 boys team and one all girls team.

We all showed our valued incredibly well and had lots of fun!

The girls were lucky enough to have a tackling workshop too!

Hīnau Cross Country 2019

Last Tuesday we had our annual Cross Country. It was a pretty cold day but we gave it our best shot! Some of us went in "competitive" and some of us went in "non competitive".
